- Read about the topic to be covered this week. Information is on healthyaggies.weebly.com. You don’t need to know everything, but it is good to have a broad understanding. It is o.k. to tell someone in response to a specific question that you don’t know the answer – take their contact information and get back to them with the information.
- Isolate a brief ‘message’ that you will use to capture the attention of the audience. You are trying to educate an audience who may not really want to know what we want to tell them. A very brief message can be the most powerful during your teachable moment. In depth information is available for those who are interested.
- Develop a visual way (and/or interactive way) to send this message. An example might be scattering sugar cubes all over the table. Students will wonder what on earth you are doing…they’ll stop and you’ll tell them! – The amount of soft drinks we’re consuming in this country is weakening our bones, among other things. Or, do you know all the hidden sources of of added sugar in the food you eat?
- Game formats can engage students, too. Test your knowledge! Or Choose which of these… Nutrition Jeopardy is fun.
- Any type of big, colorful sign is helpful, too.
